BulletSafe Ballistic Plates offer Level 4 (Level IV) protection when used in conjunction with the BulletSafe Bulletproof Vest.

Adding Level 4 ballistic plates to your Level IIIA Bullet Proof Vest gives you the highest level of protection available. This combination protects you not only from handgun fire, but from rifle fire as well.

The Ballistic Plate is only $169.

BulletSafe strives to make great protection available for everyone. That is why we provide the lightweight protection of a Level 4 (IV) ceramic plate for the price of a heavy steel plate.

The Ballistic Plate comes in one size.

The Level 4 BulletSafe Ballistic Plate fits securely in the pocket of the BulletSafe Bullet Proof Vest. It is 11 7/8 inches tall, 10 inches across, and 0.80 inches in depth. It is curved to fit close to your body, and features a nylon cover that protects it from the sun and typical wear and tear.

Is this the best Ballistic Plate on the market?

Yes, and it is available at the best price. It is guaranteed to make your Level IIIA Vest into a Level 4 (IV) Vest. It weighs only 5.65 lbs, and is made from a ceramic material that contains alumina and High Strength Polyethylene. This plate is significantly lighter than a steel plate while comparable in price. The BulletSafe Ballistic Plate is a great value.

How many Ballistic Plates should I buy?

It depends on how much protection you desire. SWAT teams and those who expect to be shot at from the front wear one ballistic plate in the chest pocket. Those who are in warzones wear two ballistic plates: one in the front pocket, and one in back. Analyze your unique situation to decide on how many plates you will need.

Is this a SAPI Plate?

Our plate is not currently in use by the US Military, but it offers protection similar to the Enhanced Small Arms Protection Insert (ESAPI) and more protection than the Small Arms Protection Insert (SAPI) plate. Our plate is the same size as the Medium SAPI and ESAPI plates and is the same weight as the ESAPI plate.

What is the protection level of this plate when used alone?

Our plate provides NIJ level III protection when used alone, such as in a plate carrier. This will protect against non-armor piercing .223 and 7.62 x 51mm rounds. For heavier rounds and level IV (4) protection, the plate needs to be used in conjunction with our bulletproof vest.

Does this plate fit in the BulletSafe Vest?

Yes.  This plate fits in both the front and rear plate pockets of all sizes of BulletSafe Vest.

Additional information on our Ceramic Plates:

If you want a good middle ground between price and weight, ceramic is what you are looking for. Steel is heavy and doesn’t contain the bullet. This can cause the bullet to deflect to your face. It’s a sacrificial product so it will contain the bullet, locking it in. A lot lighter than steel. Steel is 9.5-11 lbs, ceramic plates are 5.7 lbs so almost half the weight. Our ceramics are a mosaic style, made out of a number of tiles.

Some ceramic plates don’t have anything on the face of them, so if you get shot the ceramic splatters all over the place causing lacerations. Our have polyethylene layer on the face so the splatter is minimal.

Understanding the quality and levels of protection for a Bulletproof vest with and without Ceramic Plates

  1. Level of Protection

Bullet proof vests are engineered, tested and rated at varying levels of protection. In general, higher means a greater level of protection. In order of lowest to the highest level, the ratings are as follows: IIA, II, IIA, III, IV. Typically, level IIIA with ballistic plates or level 4 (IV) are recommended.

For reference, a Level II or IIA vest will be largely ineffective against rounds from a .45 or .40 S&W.

  1. Testing

Speaking of ratings, you want to make sure the vest has actually been tested to have achieved that rating. Knock offs and cheap Chinese manufacturers have flooded the market with vests that may not provide the protection they advertise.

What you want to look for is proof of testing that adheres to the National Institute of Justice’s testing procedures. These vests will be marked as NIJ certified. All of our vests meet or exceed NIJ testing for the ratings advertised.

  1. Sizing

The fit of your vest is a critical aspect of protection and mobility. Too tight and it can hinder heavy breathing under duress while restricting tactical movement. Too loose and it can leave room for injury while also getting in the way of maneuvering. We offer a range of 6+ sizes to fit virtually any body size and frame. Reach out if you have questions. We’d be happy to help you get the right fit.

  1. Weight

When it comes to body armor, there is often a tradeoff between overall weight and the level of protection offered. For example, adding ballistic plates to a Level III vest can dramatically improve its protective capability, but at the price of adding additional weight.

Larger individuals or those who are more athletic may find additional weight negligible, while those with smaller frames (such as women) may need to consider the balance between protection and mobility.

  1. Ability to Upgrade or Customize

For some, the ability to customize their outfit is an important consideration. Apart from the ability to accessorize, the most popular option is having additional pockets to hold ballistic plates.

  1. Build Quality

When it comes to protection, you can’t skimp on quality. Whether you’re a first responder putting your vest through daily abuse, or a tactical weekend warrior, you need equipment that is built to last.

  1. Country of Origin

Although quality vests can be found internationally, its important to note that many sites are selling knock offs, shoddy vests, and setups made from materials of inferior quality. Poor quality vests can result in catastrophic and sometimes fatal consequences. Don’t leave your safety up to a ‘no-name’ brand from just any website.

In the above video you can see our ballistic plates stopping .223 rounds. While most people don't usually associate ceramic plates with multi-shot capabilities, the idea that they are only good for one shot isn't true. The NIJ test for these plates is conducted with 6 shots in different locations and this video shows 3 successful stops in the same spot. These ceramic ballistic plates offer great protection for the price and weight.

Customer Reviews
Great upgrade for added protection!
Aaron Wery

I work for a state parole agency that issues only basic level II armor due to costs. I work in a large urban area with a caseload of repeat/violent offenders and gang members. I am frequently involved in LE Taskforce operations looking for parole violators and fugitives. I often feel out-gunned and under-protected. The BulletSafe plate added to my existing carrier offers a great balance of weight and protection. Very pleased.

My first plate!

I just received my lightweight plate today, and I love it! It’s not really that heavy considering the protection provided! Fits like a glove in my vest! (BulletSafe of course!) 🙂 I was so impressed, that I just completed my order for the second plate, for my wife’s vest, a couple of minutes ago! I love these products, and will most likely purchase more in the near future. Great job guys. I’ll spread the word.

Excellent Service

From order to door in 2 days. Plate was well packaged and appears to be a great product. I say “appears” because I hope to never have to test it.

Fits right in
Carlos Guitierez

Fits right in the vest. I keep it in my trunk just in case. It is lighter than steel plates by a lot, not the lightest thing ever, but lighter than my buddys steel plate. I don’t use it that often, but it is really nice to have.

Ton goes much further then just making a great vest!!
David Conley

I have to say that Tom Nardone is probably one of the most helpful CEOs that I have ever dealt with. He is willing to take the time needed to help customers get the perfect set up.
That is rare and greatly appreciated.
Thank you Tom and BulletSafe!!

Great price, much lighter than AR500

My buddy has steel plates, and these are way lighter. Not much more money either. It hink it is a good choice.

Nice plate, great price.

This plate is a great value. It is much lighter than steel but not much more money. I bought one when I bought my vest. I wear the vest way more than I wear the plate, but I like having it. I can just slip it into the pocket at any time. I wore it when I went deer hunting this year and it was no problem moving around with it on my chest. I didn’t buy two plates, just one. That seemed enough.
