The BulletSafe Bulletproof Hat or Baseball Cap is among the first head accessory offering protection against bullets. The cap equips you with level IIA protection. This includes preventing 9mm, .38, .380, .40, and .45 caliber rounds from entering the skull.
This bulletproof hat is made with a hard plate of compressed polyethylene. The hard plate only covers the front 1/3 of the baseball cap which is the maximum coverage possible without sacrificing its discreet appearance. The BulletSafe Bulletproof Hat is not to be confused with a ballistic helmet. Ballistic helmets are intended to provide much greater protection against bullets and fragmentation around the majority of the skull. The BulletSafe Hat provides less protective area as it is designed to be discreet for everyday wear. Although it offers less protection than heavy-duty ballistic helmets, the baseball cap significantly decreases the likelihood of injury due to bullets entering the skull. BULLETPROOF BASEBALL CAP SIZING
Currently, the bulletproof cap is only available in Black in three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large/Extra Large. However, they are Flex-fit hats so they are suitable for a wide range of people.
To determine the proper size cap for you, measure your head, and compare the measurements to the chart. Measure your head where the band of a hat usually sits. This typically runs across the middle of your forehead and around the widest part of your head.
- Small: less than 21 inches in circumference
- Medium: 21-23 inches in circumference
- Large: 23-24 inches in circumference
The cap is only offered up to a size Large because the hard, protective plate takes up a lot of room. A large cap is actually made with a size XXL hat, but with the hard plate, the size ultimately comes down to a Large.

Why do you make a bulletproof baseball cap?
Injuries due to bullets entering the head are usually fatal. The head is also a fairly large target. For these reasons, people with dangerous jobs or people who find themselves in dangerous situations need protection. The BulletSafe Bulletproof Baseball Cap is protective while maintaining a professional and approachable appearance. The last thing you want in a violent situation is intimidation which may escalate the problem. This cap protects your skull while maintaining comfort and ease.
Will the hat be available in custom designs?
Yes, we do make custom bulletproof hats for organizations. To order customized caps, a minimum order of 10 hats is suggested. It usually takes about 3-4 weeks for completion; however, this depends on your order size and the nature of the customization. As for costs, there is an additional fee that is dependent on how much labor is required to complete the order.
If your organization already receives hats from a hat company, it is easy to turn them into bulletproof ones. Arrange to have your hat distributor send new hats to us. Are the hats available in custom colors?

Won't the force from a bullet's impact kill you?
No, the force of a bullet when wearing a bulletproof cap will not kill you. The amount of energy in a handgun round is not as high as it may seem. A .45ACP has about 450 Joules of energy. For comparison, a hockey snapshot has about 240 Joules of energy. That means the handgun round has about double the force of being hit with a hockey puck. This is not to say that being hit will not result in any injury, however. The bulletproof hat may not prevent a concussion, but compared to the damage a bullet would cause without the protection of a bulletproof cap, it is much more favorable. A gunshot to the head is almost always fatal, but the cap will prevent such injuries.
Will the hat protect the sides and rear of your head?
No, the hat will not protect the sides and rear of your head. The protective panel only covers the front of the cap.
Why won't it protect the sides and rear of the head?
Adding the protective panel to the sides and rear of the cap would take away from its discrete appearance. The idea behind the product is to project a friendly appearance while also offering protection in case it is needed. If you cannot hide the appearance of the ballistic panel, this adds an intimidation factor that may result in dangerous and violent situations that could have been avoided.
In addition, there is no side and rear protection due to the sizing of the hats. There is a limit as to how much of a protective panel we can fit in a cap. Adding additional protection would mean the inability to make caps for larger sizes. Also, it would make the cap too bulky for everyday wear.
If you want protection for your entire head, consider purchasing a bulletproof helmet.
How does it work?
For the protective panel, we use materials that are normally designed to stop rifle rounds from entering the body. The materials are then used to create a small panel that will stop handgun rounds.
How was the hat tested?
Our BulletSafe Bulletproof Baseball Cap was tested at Oregon Ballistics Laboratory. The procedures followed in accordance with the frontal portion of the National Institute of Justice’s helmet standards. Our hats passed the NIJ level IIA test.
What caliber will the hat stop?
After testing, it was proven that the hat offers level IIA protection. This includes protection against .22LR, .38, .380, .40, 9mm, and .45ACP rounds, the same as our bulletproof vests.

This product is rock solid. Totally worth the money. The cops should all be wearing this hat. Body armor is never quite comfortable, but this hat is as comfortable as any practical person, who knows better, could hope for. I prefer this to the Level IIIA helmet any time. Every marksman is trained to shoot center mass anyway.
Is there a way you could get full coverage of the head? That would be better, but this is a really good idea.
